eating disorders

A message from

Dear Parent(s):

While we haven't yet met, the fact that you are researching the Internet looking for the best possible eating disorder treatment tells me you love and want the very best for your child (or loved one). For that, I admire you.

What's more, that love and caring is critical because you are important to your child, and you will play a vital role in her anorexia recovery or bulimia recovery.

I know this is probably a heartbreaking time in you and your family's life, but if it isn't too presumptive, I'd like to take a few moments to give you some words of encouragement.

  1. Do not give up hope. I know your situation is extremely challenging right now, but please do not give up hope. We have helped hundreds of patients beat their eating disorder once and for all, even when the family members were at their absolute wit's end.
  2. Even if your daughter (or son) has failed in eating disorder treatment several times before, chances remain excellent that we can help you. Many of our patients have failed 2-3 times before, and even our "last resort" patients often go on to lead healthy happy lives.
  3. You are not at fault. Period. In spite of what previous therapists have told you, the family is not to blame for your daughter's eating disorder. Please see our article 7 Criteria You MUST Consider When Choosing an Eating Disorder Treatment Program for more.
  4. We'll support and guide you. Rather than be marginalized in your daughter's anorexia treatment and/or bulimia treatment, your family will be a critical component. We won't "send your daughter away." Rather, we require family members to stay with patients during the course of their eating disorder treatment.
  5. Your family relationship will recover too. Not only should your child's health recover from her eating disorder, but your relationships should as well. You'll learn how to again sit down to a meal with your child and enjoy it. You can learn to trust your child again to do the right things. I know that seems impossible right now, but it happens all the time.
  6. Do as much research as you need to. This is your child's welfare we are talking about, so I urge you to do your homework on our website as thoroughly as you like, and feel free to compare us to others. The most important thing I can tell you is that our approach is scientifically proven to deliver results. We do it over and over again, and chances are very high we can do the same for you.
  7. We promise to take good care of her. We'll treat her (or him) well and give her the best possible care. You have my personal commitment on that, as well as the commitment of every member of our staff.

    As you review this website, keep in mind that our program is not a quick fix. It has taken years for your child to develop this eating disorder, and it will take time to undo the damage.

    However, you will see a positive change in just a few months. Many of our patients with severe eating disorders are considered free of symptoms after 4-6 months of anorexia treatment and/or bulimia treatment, and most are free within 12 months of treatment.

    We have strong scientific data showing that our patients do recover from anorexia and bulimia. And the best thing about our eating disorder treatment is that once you recover, you will live a full and rewarding life.

    Sincerely,

    Cecilia Bergh
